Background
pTau231 is a phosphorylated form of tau protein that is a promising biomarker for early Alzheimer's disease (AD). It is an indicator of incipient amyloid-beta pathology and can be measured in blood plasma, making it useful for early detection, differentiating AD from other neurodegenerative disorders, and identifying people for clinical trials. Elevated levels correlate with cognitive and neuropathological severity, and it can detect AD changes years before clinical symptoms appear.
