Product Details
Background
HA protein belongs to class I viral fusion proteins. It can bind to sialic-acid-containing receptors on the surface of host cells, enabling the virus particles to attach to the cells. Later, it mediates the fusion of the viral membrane with the endosomal membrane of the host cell through conformational changes, facilitating the entry of the virus into the cell cytoplasm. The HA protein of H3N8 avian influenza virus is a trimer, and each monomer is composed of two subunits, HA1 and HA2. The receptor - binding site of the HA protein is located in the HA1 subunit, which is responsible for binding to host cell receptors. The HA2 subunit is mainly responsible for membrane fusion. Studies have shown that the HA protein of the H3N8 avian influenza virus has the characteristics of binding to dual receptors, but it has a greater tendency to bind to avian receptors. However, mutations at specific positions, such as the G228S mutation, can significantly enhance its binding ability to human receptors. In addition, the antigenic sites of the H3N8 HA protein are unique, which may affect the effectiveness of existing influenza vaccines.
