Background
Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 5 (CCL5) also known as RANTES is classified as a chemotactic cytokine or chemokine. CCL5 is chemotactic for T cells, eosinophils, and basophils, and plays an active role in recruiting leukocytes into inflammatory sites which has been reported to be produced by renal tubular epithelium, synovial fibroblasts and selected tumor cells. It also induces the proliferation and activation of certain natural-killer cells to form CHAK cells. Recombinant human CCL5 shares 84 % a.a. sequence identity with murine and rat CCL5, respectively. Recombinant Human RANTES (CCL5) is a 7.8kDa protein containing 68 amino acid residues including the four highly conserved cysteine residues present in the CC chemokines.
