Product Details
Background
Streptavidin is a biotin-binding protein that was originally isolated from Streptomyces avidinii. Streptavidin is superior to avidin because it has almost no net charge at neutral pH and does not contain carbohydrate and exhibits lower level of non-specific binding. Recombinant streptavidin is a tetrameric protein with a molecular weight of approximately 53kDa, consisting of four subunits of approximately 13kDa. Each subunit contains a single biotin-binding site and has six tyrosine. The purified recombinant streptavidin can be applied in detection of biotinylated antibodies and other probes in a variety of standard assay methods, including Western Blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence imaging.
